CimStation Robotics (CSR) and SoftMachines software was used to model and verify the riveting of fuselage assemblies at Boeing.

Aerospace manufacture calls for the production of large, complex components to high levels of accuracy, often requiring specialist machines for the manufacturing process. The machines can perform various operations, including drilling, fettling, riveting and polishing. Because of the leading-edge nature of the manufacture of these large components, such as wing/fuselage components, novel machines are often developed to make them, and also to perform detailed assembly operations. Simulation can assist aerospace engineers in optimising the way in which the machine operates; especially where there is no prior knowledge of such a machine, and this machine may be a one-off or the first of many.

CSR E-Hub is designed to assist aerospace engineers in developing highly efficient software to simulate a new machine, define its requirements, program and finally verify the program prior to prove out on the machine. CSR E-Hub is highly visual and intuitive; giving both aerospace engineers and machine-builders an insight into what is possible and practical ahead of producing the machine, and the machine in actual operation. For these applications, often E-Hub is combined with our softmachines software. In this way simulation can assist with the programming phase, and then again for verification, prior to manufacture.
